Reconnect was Blue Space Highland's artwork project for this year, bringing together young people from Nairn Academy and talented artist Tilly Currah to decorate the tired Victorian Shelter on the West Links. Their collaboration resulted in a stunning collection of murals adorning the shelter in the most sympathetic way possible. It is now a prominent feature of the Links, a favourite rest spot for open swimmers and a reminder to everyone to get back to the seaside now and again to experience the wonderful health and wellbeing benefits of blue spaces.

Before leaving the school, we were supported by another incredibly talented artist who took a series of photographs of the art before it went under glass. The results of all this talent come together in our collection of gift cards.

In the collection we have:

'Humpback Whale'  This beautiful mural in five sections is displayed facing out to sea where the reflections of the ocean give it an ever-changing dimension. Every viewing is a new experience.
'John Coe & Aquarius' The last remaining local pair of Orca are occasional visitors to the Moray Firth. The five piece mural is displayed on the land side of the shelter. Viewing the art from here gives a wonderful impression of seeing these amazing creatures with the Moray Firth behind.
'Fish Frenzy' This three piece art work is displayed on the West side of the shelter. It is a joyous celebration of our resident dolphins causing mayhem amongst a school of fish. The pupils attached many personal stories to the fish in this mural. Its real beauty lies in that secret, although close inspection might reveal the odd deep marine wedding or other fishy encounter.
'Seaweed and Seals' Who wouldn't love to have these Moray Firth residents greeting them. The mural is in three parts displayed on the East side of the shelter. Many of us have close encounters with seals on the Moray Firth and the joy of those encounters are captured perfectly in this artwork.
